Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (commonly referred to as BJJ or jiu jitsu) is a grappling-based martial art that stems from Kosen Judo and Japanese jiu jitsu. It was developed primarily by the Gracie Family in Brazil in the early 20th century and has since gained popularity in the US due to the rise of MMA. Some of the first major MMA events in the US were actually organized as a way to demonstrate the efficacy of BJJ in a combat setting.
While women are encouraged to attend any of our classes, we wanted to create something that is specifically catered to the amazing women at Iron Roots Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This course is designed and planned for our female students. It focuses on self-defense for smaller individuals facing larger attackers, reaching fitness goals, and training with like-minded women.
Muay Thai utilizes eight points of contact, rather than the four that similar styles, such as kickboxing, use. In our Muay Thai class, you’ll be using all eight contact points for punches, knee strikes, elbow strikes, kicks, and more.
